Here are some great tips if you are thinking of preparing a starter for friends and family:
- Don’t fill people up too much before other courses, so try to keep starters light
- Choose a starter than can be prepared in advance, leaving the finishing touches until just before serving
- Think of balance - if your main course is quite filling, try to make the starter very light; or, if your main course is going to be fish, then stay away from fish with your starter
- Some salads, such as a Caesar salad, will make a very good starter.
