Blanch walnuts

This cooking skill is all about how to blanch walnuts.  Blanching is simply the process of putting something, walnuts in this case, into boiling water and then removing after a short period and putting into iced water.  This stops the cooking process and can be used to soften a foodstuff, partially or fully cook or remove a strong taste.

Blanch walnuts – a step by step guide

  1. Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil.
  2. Add the walnuts for about 10-12 seconds.
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and instantly plunge into ice-cold water.
  4. Then, using a small knife, scrape away the brown skin.
